Prof. Lia Diskin is the founder of the Palas Athena Association, a Brazilian NGO dedicated to developing and managing community- oriented programmes.

With a view to promote a continuous revival of Gandhi’s ideas and invaluable examples, she has been organizing Gandhi Week every year since 1982 without a single interruption. The themes for reflection and activities are an amazing mix of conferences, seminars, exhibitions, workshops, meditation meetings, art, drama, songs, dance and visual media. Starting with Sao Paulo, these have now been spread over 16 cities in Brazil.

Her successful efforts for training a wide constituents like the teachers, education-professionals, children, students, Military and Civil Police, governmental agencies, civil society organizations and the general public through specially designed programmes such as ‘Peace Wants Partners’, ‘Priceless Values’, ‘Peace in Action’ etc. are highly commendable.

Prof. Liskin’s creation of ‘Gandhi Network’ to impart training, information, and guidance on Culture of Peace-oriented activities is an exemplary initiative.
